Duluth MN Lodging - South Pier Inn

The following article appeared in the New York Post on September 3, 2002:

"The latest addition to Duluth's surging waterfront scene offers an eyeful.  The South Pier Inn, sitting on Park Point just off the Aerial Lift Bridge, was specifically designed to offer panoramoric views of the canal and harbor.  Most of the 29 rooms have a whirlpool, gas fireplace and private balcony.  Decor is spare and uncluttered.  While the hotel does not have a restaurant, it offers a complimentary breakfast in the lounge."

Dear Solas

Thank you so much for sharing your new Inn for us to clean up for the next leg of our journey around Lake Superior... Your place is beautiful & special. We will stop in on our return to Duluth some day. Thanks to your whole family.

Warm wishes,

Ann Bancroft

We were here in May and enjoyed your inn so much we came back in October!

It was great - nice and quiet!

Enjoyed our room and view very much. Can even feel like you are on a boat. We will come back! :)

Gorgeous rooms and views, loved the whirlpool tub, nice accommodating staff.

We really enjoyed our stay. Loved the non-traditional hotel style.

Great!! Best place to stay in Duluth.

Very comfortable and relaxing. We had everything we needed including a deck and a beautiful view. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. We would definitely recommend this place to others.

As always, we have had a wonderful stay. The solitude and peace are amazing, yet we are just a short stroll from much activity!

We were thrilled when we found you had just what we were looking for the first night of our honeymoon. Great view, Jacuzzi and fireplace! :) Everything has been great! Definitely recommend to our friends!

Always enjoy stay at such a “relaxing” place right in the very heart of the shipping canal “action”! Best of all worlds. “The Bridge” is always amazing! Duluth’s 2nd best asset - right after “The Lake.”

Thanks Dale and Betty for the sea glass tips!! We enjoyed the walks and the discoveries.

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure to stay at. Thank you for the DVD player, the wireless, the fridge - makes it easy to travel with a kid!

The room was beautiful, the view was fantastic. We were able to walk to dinner, movie, the lake front. My only complaint is that we didn’t stay longer. Thanks for a fantastic visit.

Fabulous, panoramic view. So entertaining watching huge boats come through. Beautiful at night. Very clean. Everything you want. Spacious. Loved the whirlpool and fireplace. It couldn’t possibly be any better. Please tell Mrs. Sola how much I enjoyed the tour of her gardens as I was a tourist passing by and admiring. She was so enthusiastic about them and so charming. She was just so genuinely nice to me. Kudos to her and her family and staff for this wonderful South Pier Inn.

Total relaxation - enjoyed our closeness to the canal and Lake Superior-yet quiet and relaxing. We will be back…South Pier Inn is our new favorite place to stay in Duluth. Reminds me of Rehoboth Beach in Delaware (a slightly cooler version)

This is my new hotel on the Canal!! Everything was perfect and the price was right everything in walking distance!! :) I was able to check in early which was wonderful because I needed a place to park my car.

The gentleman who checked us in was very pleasant, the room was perfect and the location couldn’t have been more ideal. Thank for a great stay. The cleaning staff was very prompt always had a “good morning” for us.

Loved the room - loved the whirlpool - loved the robes. Loved watching the ships from our room and the city lights at night. Wonderful place to spend your 60th birthday! We will be back.

Best vacation ever; the panoramic suite is the best! Awesome 2 days. Room and everything was very top notch. The panoramic suite gets huge solar gain (even when it was 41 degrees outside we shut off the heat and opened the door). But this just added to the canal “experience.” Thanks for all.

Loved the whirlpools in room and fireplaces. So toasty and warm. Love the recycling!!! Wonderful lite breakfast. 2nd time here, we will come again.

What a wonderful place to stay so inviting, our room had the harbor view which was stunning. We will be back! Enjoyed very much. We enjoyed how quiet and peaceful it was here. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

The staff at South Pier Inn anticipated our every need from the plush towels to the binoculars for capturing life aboard the ships.

Our son left yesterday on the St. Clair as a deck cadet and we were able to see him leave Duluth from our balcony at 11:20pm (thanks to a call from the desk).
